Privacy Policy
Effective date: 10 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ScrapMonk ("ScrapMonk", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use the ScrapMonk mobile app for Android and iOS (package com.scrapmonk.app) and the website scrapmonk.com (together, the "Service"). It applies to customers who book scrap pickups and to pickup partners who collect them.
We process personal data in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules. By using the Service you agree to this policy.
1. Data we collect
| Data | Why we collect it |
|---|---|
| Phone number (required) | To create your account, sign you in with a one-time password (OTP) sent by SMS, and contact you about pickups. |
| Name and email address (optional) | To personalise your account and reach you if your phone is unavailable. |
| Pickup addresses: address line, landmark, city, state, PIN code | To send a pickup partner to the right place and check the area is served. |
| Location (only with your permission) | To fill in your address automatically from your current location. Location is read only when you use that feature; we do not track your location in the background. |
| Photos and videos of your scrap (optional) | Images you choose to attach to a booking, taken with the camera or picked from your gallery, so the pickup partner knows what to expect. We only access the files you select. |
| Order details: pickup date and time slot, expected weight, remarks, items, final weight, amount paid, payment reference, pickup OTP, cancellation reason | To schedule, complete and pay for the pickup, and to keep records of the transaction. |
| Rewards and referrals: points, cashback, referral code and who referred you | To run our rewards and referral programme. |
| Notifications | Messages about your orders and offers, shown in the app. |
| Technical data: device type, operating system and app version, and basic logs | To keep the Service secure and working, and to fix problems. |
Pickup partners additionally provide the cities and PIN codes they serve, and record item-wise weights and amounts for each pickup they complete.
We do not collect your contacts, call logs, SMS messages, bank card numbers or UPI PINs. Payment for scrap is made to you in cash or by UPI at the time of pickup; we only record the amount and a payment reference.
2. How we use your data
- To create and secure your account and verify your phone number.
- To show scrap rates and available dates for your city, and to book, assign, complete and pay for pickups.
- To share the details needed for a pickup with the assigned pickup partner.
- To send order updates, and occasional offers that you can ignore or turn off in your phone settings.
- To run rewards, cashback and referrals.
- To provide customer support, prevent fraud and misuse, and keep records required by law.
- To understand how the Service is used and improve it.
3. Who we share it with
We never sell your personal data. We share it only as follows:
- Pickup partners: when your order is assigned, the partner sees your name, phone number, pickup address and order details so they can collect your scrap. Customers see the name and phone number of their assigned partner.
-
Service providers that run the Service for us, under contract and only for that purpose:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage (cloud hosting);
- an SMS gateway provider (such as Fast2SMS) to deliver OTP and order SMS messages;
- Google and Apple, for app distribution, and the device geocoding service used to turn your location into an address.
- Legal reasons: when required by law, a court order or a government authority, or to protect the rights and safety of our users, partners or ScrapMonk.
- Business transfer: if ScrapMonk is merged or sold, your data may transfer to the new owner under this same policy.
Some of our service providers may store data on servers outside India. Where that happens, we rely on their contractual security commitments and transfer data only as permitted by Indian law.
4. How long we keep it
- Account, profile and addresses: while your account is active, and deleted when you delete your account.
- Scrap photos and videos: deleted with your account, or earlier on request.
- OTP records: kept only briefly for sign-in and security, then removed.
- Completed order and payment records (date, items, weight, amount, payment reference): kept for up to 8 years where tax and accounting law requires it, even after you delete your account. These records are separated from your name, phone number and address wherever the law allows.
5. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with access controls, so customers can see only their own data, partners only the orders assigned to them, and staff only what their role needs. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data we will notify you and the authorities as required by law.
6. Your rights and choices
You can:
- Access and correct your name, email and addresses in the app under Account, or ask us for a copy of your data.
- Delete your account and personal data: see Delete your account.
- Withdraw permissions for location, camera, photos or notifications at any time in your phone's settings. The app keeps working; you will just enter your address by hand or skip photos.
- Withdraw consent to processing; this may mean we can no longer provide the Service to you.
- Nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to, and complain to our Grievance Officer (below) or to the Data Protection Board of India.
We reply to requests within 30 days and may first verify that the request comes from you.
7. Children
The Service is meant for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app before they take effect.
